The software also extends the core security capabilities of the Java platform by meeting the stringent FIPS 140 requirements, the U.S. government standard which specifies the security requirements to be satisfied by a cryptographic module to be used by a Federal agency. The security components provided by the Java platform do not have this support - using only the baseline support can greatly increase your time-to-market as you will need to go through the FIPS validation process yourself.
