Network Intelligence, Netapp and Decru Announce End-To-End Secure Log Management Lifecycle Solution
Turnkey Solution Manages, Stores, and Secures Sensitive Log Data

INFOSECURITY CONFERENCE, NEW YORK, NY— [Network Intelligence, a privately-held leader in transforming enterprise-wide data into compliance and security information, joined RSA, The Security Division of EMC, after its acquisition by EMC in September 2006.]

Network IntelligenceTM Corp., the market-proven leader in transforming enterprise-wide data into automated compliance and security information, today announced it has partnered with Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), and Decru, a NetApp company, to provide integrated solutions that secure the log management lifecycle. The comprehensive joint solution allows customers to capture, analyze, report, and securely store terabytes of mission-critical log and event data to simplify compliance and improve organizational security. This announcement follows closely on the heels of NetApp unveiling its uncompromised security initiative in early November, outlining a vision and approach that challenge the status quo of data security and aim to deliver industry-best solutions to the enterprise (for full release visit http://netapp.com/news/press/news_rel_20051109).

As enterprise networks and data traffic have grown, the volume and sensitivity of security log files have multiplied. At the same time, companies face mandates from regulations like Sarbanes Oxley, GLBA, and HIPAA to control the retention, privacy, and recovery of sensitive data. Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) applications can help organizations improve security and manage compliance by simplifying collection and analysis of data. These applications can capture relevant information from network, security, host, application, and storage layers, providing important visibility into data from across the enterprise. However, this log data is highly sensitive, as attackers could use this information to identify security vulnerabilities, or target proprietary or regulated data in the storage environment. Consequently, these logs must be protected against unauthorized access, theft, sabotage, or tampering by parties inside or outside the organization.

New solutions from Network Intelligence and NetApp, including Decru® security solutions, combine the expertise of both companies to offer customers an integrated, secure storage environment capable of capturing and managing sensitive data, including sensitive log information. Solutions include:

Network Intelligence: Network Intelligence captures all the data from security, network, infrastructure, application, host and storage devices. With this, customers are provided real-time and historical security and compliance analysis, as well as powerful reporting and compliance alerts. Network Intelligence creates a complete picture of network usage, to verify security policy compliance, to generate alerts for possible compliance breaches, and to analyze and report on network performance. Relentless IT security threats generated from viruses and worms, and legislation such as Sarbanes-Oxley, GLBA, HIPAA and PCI require companies to deploy SIEM technology. Network Intelligence enables businesses to quickly address these challenges by efficiently and cost-effectively deploying an appliance based solution that automatically manages all the data, from any IP device, without filtering or agents.

NetApp® Storage Solutions: NetApp offers a range of storage options that leverage a unified architecture, creating a scalable and easy to manage storage environment. SnapLock® software helps protect the permanence, accuracy, integrity, and security of data by enabling business records to be both unalterable and rapidly accessible. By replicating data at high speeds over a LAN or a WAN, SnapMirror® software provides the highest possible data availability and fastest recovery for mission-critical applications. The NetApp NearStore® and FAS3000 series systems deliver highly scalable disk-based storage platforms that support inexpensive ATA disk drives, providing an ideal platform for long-term storage and protection of mission-critical log data.
"The need for a holistic solution that addresses the management, storage, and security of data is clear," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "NetApp is committed to providing best-in-class solutions to enterprises for uncompromised security. Working with partners like Network Intelligence and its SIEM offerings provides our customers with revolutionary solutions for providing simplified management of customer data, enhanced security of that data, and a pragmatic approach to analyzing and organizing data."

Decru DataFortTM storage security appliances incorporate wire-speed encryption, access controls, and authentication to protect sensitive data at rest from unauthorized access. DataFort fits seamlessly into the storage infrastructure, and can be deployed transparently with no changes to servers, applications, or user workflow. DataFort appliances also capture auditable, cryptographically-signed logs, providing a tamper-evident summary of data access.
"ESG has long recognized the need to add security defenses into the storage infrastructure and we are now witnessing a similar convergence on the security side of the house," said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "With the explosive growth of security and event information, security professionals need an enterprise-class storage infrastructure to store, manage, and protect large amounts of critical data while making sure to secure records against any type of security breach. In light of these emerging market requirements, the Network Intelligence, NetApp, and Decru relationship should certainly be of interest to enterprise and government organizations."
