BankWest Selects RSA SecurID® Authentication to Protect Online Business Banking Customers from Online Fraud
RSA Security’s SecurID® solution provides proven two-factor authentication to minimise risk of identity theft

Sydney, Australia,— RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS) today announced that BankWest Business has chosen the RSA SecurID® solution to provide strong, two-factor authentication as part of a new security system for its online banking customers.

BankWest Business will issue all its online business banking customers with RSA SecurID hardware authenticators (tokens) by the end of 2005, providing them with stronger security and protection over static, reusable passwords when transacting online. These tokens are small devices that easily connect to any key ring and generate a new and unique one-time-password (OTP) every 60 seconds.

Passwords in the form of numeric pass codes are displayed on a digital readout window on the on the device. The user simply reads the code from the device and types their PIN plus the code into the dialogue box of the online banking application they wish to access.

The RSA SecurID authenticator weighs just 21 grams and is designed to be tamper-evident. The device is designed to operate in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 65°C and its built-in battery has a life of up to 5 years.

Unseen by users, the RSA SecurID solution is powered by RSA® Authentication Manager software – an enterprise-class authentication software solution that can scale up to support millions of users and hundreds of simultaneous applications. It provides BankWest Business with centralised, easy and cost-effective administration and is designed to interoperate with more than 290 networking products and applications out of the box.

“It is significant that BankWest has never had a reported case of online fraud via its Business internet banking platform, yet it is moving to the forefront of banking practice by introducing the RSA SecurID two-factor authentication solution for its Online Business Banking customers,” said Sebastian Moore, Area Vice President, Asia Pacific of RSA Security.

“This illustrates how progressive banks are deploying innovative security measures to enhance their customers’ safety and confidence online, and at the same time to differentiate themselves from competitors.”

“The fact that BankWest Business will issue RSA SecurID tokens to its Online Business Banking customers free of charge also shows how a forward-thinking institution can balance the Total Cost of Ownership of security solutions, the needs of the bank, and convenience and ease of use for customers,” he said.
