Encryption and Compression Leaders Form Technology, Marketing and Sales Partnership to Advance Secure, Efficient Data Transport and Storage
CSI CONFERENCE, CHICAGO, Ill. PKWARE® Inc., the leader in trusted ZIP solutions™, and RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, today announced a new strategic technology, sales and marketing partnership to address the growing need for more efficient and secure data transport and storage. Bringing together PKWARE’s ZIP compression technology, the de facto standard for storing and exchanging large data files, and RSA BSAFE® encryption technology, one of the world's most pervasive security technologies, the two standard-setting companies will develop and market best-of-breed products that combine their complementary technologies for desktop, server and mainframe environments.
Under the strategic alliance agreement, PKWARE is licensing RSA BSAFE encryption software for use across all platforms – including desktops, servers, and mainframes – supported by PKWARE’s flagship line of PKZIP compression products. Similarly, RSA Security is licensing PKZIP compression technology for use in products it will offer through its worldwide direct sales and distribution channels. Additionally, the companies have agreed to collaborate on further integrating their technologies in future versions of PKZIP.
A preview of a jointly developed product will be demonstrated in the RSA Security booth at the CSI Conference, booth #1315, NW Hall. PKWARE will also be demonstrating its products in the RSA Partner Pavilion, a part of the RSA Security booth, as well as in the PKWARE booth #508, SE Hall.
“Our complementary technologies are a natural fit, and both companies have expended considerable time and effort in optimizing their respective technologies to reap maximum benefit for end users,” said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of sales, marketing and corporate development at RSA Security. “We look forward to working closely with PKWARE and leveraging our combined global reach to bring exciting new products to market to help make for secure and efficient data transport and storage.”
Security experts have long appreciated how compression can aid encryption. Compression reduces the overhead associated with the encryption process, in addition to making more efficient use of network bandwidth and storage. The technology alliance announced today is intended to leverage these combined benefits, using ZIP compression and RSA BSAFE encryption software.
“RSA BSAFE encryption software and ZIP compression standards are used universally throughout the industry to ensure quality and interoperability, and the two companies are recognized leaders in their respective fields,” said Tim Kennedy, president and chief operating officer of PKWARE. “This strategic alliance is a first step towards the development of a broad range of innovative solutions based on our combined best-of-breed security and data compression technologies.”
