EMC’s Security Division and its RSA® Identity Protection and Verification Suite Recognized for "Completeness of Vision" and "Ability to Execute"
Bedford, MA
RSA, The Security Division of EMC (NYSE: EMC) announced that it is positioned within the "Leaders Quadrant" in the April 2011 Gartner report written by Vice President and Distinguished Analyst Avivah Litan titled, "Magic Quadrant for Web Fraud Detection." The positioning is based on RSA's "completeness of vision" and "ability to execute" in relation to its RSA® Identity Verification and Protection Suite.
According to Gartner, the web fraud detection market is comprised of vendors that provide software products or services that help organizations detect and prevent fraud that occurs over the web by:
- Running background server-based processes, transparent to users, that verify users based on where they are, what device they are using, and/or examine what types of information retrievals, navigations and transactions they are executing.
- Comparing this information with either a profile of what's expected of the user or against more generic rules as to what constitutes 'normal' behavior.
- If actual behavior is out of range with what's expected, the transaction can be stopped, and appropriate follow up action can be taken. This can range from asking users to re-authenticate themselves, often using another channel, such as by sending a one-time password sent to the user's mobile phone, or as is more commonly done, by asking the user to answer one or more 'secret' questions that only the legitimate user can presumably answer correctly. Some web fraud detection vendors offer these additional authentication and transaction verification capabilities while others do not.
"We believe Gartner's report confirms RSA's leading position in this market as a trusted provider of solutions designed to help our customers protect the credentials and assets of more than 300 million users worldwide," said Sam Curry, Chief Technology Officer, Marketing at RSA, The Security Division of EMC. "With a threat landscape that is continually evolving and expanding to encompass an even broader array of targets, RSA believes the industry will witness a growth in the importance of Web Fraud Detection solutions based on community collaboration across many industries. We employ this model with RSA's eFraud Network that enables thousands of member organizations to collectively gain broader visibility of threats in real-time to help better detect and significantly reduce fraud attempts."
