Cable & Wireless Selects RSA Security to Help Secure New Managed PKI Service
Multi-million dollar deal helps simplify the deployment of PKI software and extend digital certificate solutions to VPN and secure mail applications

Bedford, MA— RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, today announced that it has been selected by Cable & Wireless as the preferred strategic partner and supplier of digital certificate management and authentication solutions for Cable & Wireless’ new managed Virtual Private Network (VPN) Service. As part of this multi-million dollar deal finalized in Q2 2001, Cable & Wireless will use RSA SecurID® authentication software and RSA Keon® Advanced PKI solutions as the standard corporate offering to all users of the managed VPN service.

This new service is part of the Cable & Wireless e-security portfolio of products, and is designed to provide organizations with trusted and secure e-business solutions. Corporate customers can use the PKI Remote Access service to securely connect to a corporate network from anywhere in the world, via the Internet, using VPN technology. The PKI Secure Mail service provides digital signatures and confidentiality for e-mail communications. The Cable & Wireless managed PKI service allows the customer to maintain control, while avoiding the large up-front investment, technical expertise and support costs associated with an in-house solution.

“Cable & Wireless has a long-standing relationship with RSA Security and we are pleased to further this relationship by incorporating RSA Keon Advanced PKI software and RSA SecurID authentication software into our new managed VPN service,” said Ivor Kendall, vice president of IP desktop solutions at Cable & Wireless. “The service, integrated with products from Baltimore Technologies, is designed to be fully interoperable and provides our global customers with robust, comprehensive and scaleable e-business solutions.”

VPNs enable companies to leverage the Internet’s universal accessibility and reduce network overheads and communications costs significantly. E-security technologies – encryption, authentication and PKI – are essential elements in providing a trusted VPN environment and enabling the full business potential of VPNs to be realised.

“This latest offering from two of the industry’s most prominent players signals an important step forward in the development of the business applications that are needed to start driving the PKI market more forcefully,” said Ian Williams, managing analyst at Datamonitor. “As a well established organization with strong technology, RSA Security is in a good position to deliver the PKI return on investment that large players such as Cable & Wireless and its business users require.”

“The powerful combination of RSA Keon digital certificate management software and RSA SecurID authentication software helps enable Cable & Wireless to centralize the management of users and enforce comprehensive security policies,” said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing and corporate development at RSA Security. “By using products from the RSA VPN Security Portfolio, Cable & Wireless is adding an additional layer of security for private networks through enhanced encryption, user authentication and PKI. Strong e-security holds the key to unlocking the huge potential of virtual private networks.”
