RSA introduces RSA SecurID® Appliance 100 and introduces new route to market
Hanover RSA, the Security Division of EMC (NYSE: EMC) today announced the launch of its small to medium business (SMB) programme, with the introduction of the RSA SecurID® Appliance 100, tailored specifically to meet the needs of SMBs. The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 will be brought to market by dedicated RSA distributors with extensive experience in delivering IT solutions for the SMBs.
With greater numbers of SMB companies implementing home or remote working policies for staff, IT security is becoming an ever more important issue when ensuring protection of sensitive and proprietary company information and enabling greater productivity. The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 is engineered to deliver tailored security through two-factor authentication for up to 100 users in a simple to use, 'plug-and-play' hardware solution at an SMB price point, therefore lowering the barrier to entry for these companies.
Tim Pickard, area vice president, international marketing, RSA, said: "RSA already has a healthy SMB customer base, but the feedback we have had that smaller companies require authentication solutions that are robust and easy to manage, without compromising on the level of security provided. The SMB faces similar identity and access management issues as its larger counterpart - relying on passwords to validate user log-ins is a risk for any organisation - but prefer a flexible, plug and play delivery approach. With this in mind, we have developed a solution specifically to meet the needs of SMBs, and intend to continue to invest in developing this market moving forward."
Two-factor authentication delivered by RSA SecurID technology is based on something you know, such as a password or PIN in combination with something you physically have, such as an authentication token, which together provide a more reliable way to establish the trusted identity of users accessing critical business resources.
The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 has been designed to address the sometimes limited IT resources available within SMB businesses, whilst delivering improved remote access security. Features and benefits of the RSA SecurID Appliance 100 include:
- Simple installation: The appliance is designed to take less than 15 minutes to install and is delivered via a web-based interface that is easy for administrators to learn and use. The RSA SecurID solution is pre-installed and requiring less time to deploy and maintain the appliance.
- Scalability: The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 is packaged with 25, three-year RSA SecurID tokens. RSA SecurID tokens produce a one-time digital password, generated by a unique algorithm every 60 seconds, which remote access users enter at log-in. The appliance has capacity for up to 100 remote users; additional users can be added by simply purchasing additional RSA SecurID tokens.
- Flexibility: In addition to two-factor authentication enabling trusted verification of user identities, RSA SecurID technology is also compatible with more than 250 remote access solutions. The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 is easily integrated into an existing security or network infrastructure.
- Value and affordability: The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 is built to require less technically skilled personnel to deploy and maintain the solution ensuring low total cost of ownership over the product lifetime. The appliance is also priced specifically for SMBs with a suggested retail price of $8,499 plus annual maintenance.
Tim Pickard, vice president, international marketing, RSA, added: "The SMB market is the fastest growing business sector in Europe and there’s an exciting opportunity for RSA to apply our security knowledge to this market. The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 is the first tailored security solution we have introduced to address the need for simplicity, ease of deployment, scalability and affordability without compromising on the level of security provided."
The RSA SecurID Appliance 100 will be available from April 2007, under the terms of the RSA SecurWorldTM Partner Programme distribution agreements.
