Bedford, MA RSA Security (Nasdaq: RSAS) today announced that Dr. Burton S. Kaliski, Jr. – the company’s vice-president of research, Chair of the CTO Office and Chief Scientist at RSA Laboratories – will be providing expert testimony this week to the United States’ House of Representatives’ Committee on Small Business (Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform and Oversight).
The hearing, entitled “The State of Small Business Security in a Cyber Economy,” is scheduled for Thursday, March 16, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. ET in room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C. The purpose of this hearing is to highlight the growing economic risks associated with information security lapses, and the significance this carries for the United States’ economy as small and medium-sized enterprises become more dependent on emerging technologies.
Dr. Kaliski will discuss the security challenges facing small businesses, in the face of the increased threat from cyber-criminals who perceive that such companies are inadequately protected. He will describe the defense measures necessary to combat threats both from outside the organization and from within; and he will call on the security industry to focus on usability as the key to ensuring that its solutions are broadly adopted and deployed by businesses and consumers.
Dr. Kaliski has been with RSA Security since 1989 and helped to launch RSA Laboratories – the company’s research and development center of excellence – in 1991. He leads a group of applied researchers and standards experts that has produced a range of new concepts and technologies, including the widely-deployed Public-Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS) and the emerging One-Time Password Specifications (OTPS).
