Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates Joins Distinguished List Of Keynoters At RSA Conference 2004

SAN FRANCISCO— Organizers of RSA® Conference 2004, the world’s leading information security event, today announced top industry luminaries on the keynote roster for 13th annual conference scheduled for February 23-27 at San Francisco’s Moscone Center. Microsoft chairman and chief software architect, Bill Gates will kick-start the conference festivities with his featured keynote address on Tuesday, February 24 at 8:45 a.m.

Expecting to attract more than 10,000 people in a broad range of industries including technology, financial services, government, aerospace, healthcare/biotech, telecom, and many others, RSA Conference is recognized as the premier information security and cryptography gathering. This year’s event will commence with a special presentation by Cokie Roberts, ABC News Chief Congressional Analyst, on key developments and challenges faced by the security industry over the past year. With the stage set, additional keynote presentations will offer authoritative perspectives and insight from conference sponsors and other industry leaders such as Computer Associates, RSA Security, Symantec, Sun Microsystems, VeriSign, and best-selling authors such as David Kahn and P.J. Featured Keynotes and General Sessions TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 24

  • William H. Gates is chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft Corporation, the global leader in software, services and Internet technologies for personal and business computing. Gates left Harvard in his junior year to devote his energies to Microsoft, which he had founded in 1975 with childhood friend Paul Allen. Guided by a belief that the computer would be a valuable tool on every office desktop and in every home, they began developing software for PCs. Gates' foresight and vision for personal computing have been central to the success of the modern software industry.

  • Cokie Roberts is ABC News Chief Congressional Analyst. Former co-anchor of “This Week” (with Sam Donaldson), she is a political commentator for ABC News covering Congress, politics and public policy over the past fifteen years. She also serves as Senior Analyst for National Public Radio. With unmatched authority, Roberts brings a practiced political eye and keen perspective to issues facing lawmakers in Washington, DC.

  • Arthur W. Coviello Jr., president and chief executive officer of RSA Security Inc., has been with RSA Security since 1995 and has more than 20 years of strategic, operating and financial management experience in high technology companies. Since joining RSA Security, he has been a driving force in the rapid growth of the company, helping increase revenues from $25 million in 1995 to more than $230 million in 2002.

  • Cryptographer’s Panel: Bruce Schneier, author and chief technology officer, Counterpane Internet Security, will moderate this year’s cryptographers’ panel. Other participants include: Whitfield Diffie, Sun Microsystems; Paul Kocher, Cryptography Research, Inc.; Professor Ronald Rivest, MIT Laboratory of Computer Science; and Professor Adi Shamir, Weizmann Institute of Science.

    WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25

  • Stratton Sclavos, chairman and chief executive officer of VeriSign, Inc. Sclavos is a noted expert in critical infrastructure and security issues. In 2003, he was named to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC), advising the President on issues related to implementing national security and emergency preparedness policy for national communications infrastructure. He also serves as co-chair of the Global Business Dialogue for Electronic Commerce.

  • Jonathan Schwartz, executive vice president, software group at Sun Microsystems, Inc., leads the company’s new unified software business and focus. Sun’s market leading software organization is one of the largest in the industry, responsible for the Solaris Operating Environment, at the heart of today’s Internet; the Java platform, the standard bearer from cell phones to data centers; and the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) family of middle ware and software solutions.

  • The Government Panel titled, Information Security Governance: How Do We Get There? will examine key issues relating to information security governance in the public and private sector. The panel will be led by James A. Lewis, director of technology and public policy program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Other participants include: Richard Clarke, Good Harbor Consulting, LLC; Scott Charney, Trustworthy Computing; Microsoft Corp.; and Robert Holleyman, Business Software Alliance.

    THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26

  • Ron Moritz, senior vice president of security solutions at Computer Associates International, Inc., is responsible for the strategic direction of the CA Trust® brand. An 18-year industry veteran and Internet security expert, he served in the U.S. delegation to the G8 meetings on international cybercrime and cyberterrorism and was a founder of the Information Technology Information Sharing and Analysis Center (IT-ISAC).

  • Robert A. Clyde, vice-president and chief technology officer at Symantec, sets the technology vision and strategy for the company. He is a pioneer in the development of security products, leading development for intrusion detection and policy compliance products. Specialized teams at Symantec such as Symantec Security Response – a dedicated group of security experts focused on the latest security threats – and Symantec Research Labs – a comprehensive assembly of scientists innovating the next generation of technologies – were founded under Clyde’s direction.

  • David Kahn, Ph.D., an expert on military intelligence, has written several best-selling books such as “The Codebreakers.” With a Ph.D. in modern history from Oxford (England) University, he has taught at Yale and Columbia Universities, has testified before Congress on policy matters dealing with cryptology, and appears on television as an expert on the history of codes and ciphers.

    FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 27

  • P.J. O’Rourke, best-selling author and leading political satirist, has more than a million words of trenchant journalism under his byline and more citations in The Penguin Dictionary of Humorous Quotations than any other living writer. He has established himself as America’s premier political satirist and is the best-selling author of ten books. He frequently appears on television, from VH-1 to Good Morning America to C-Span.
