RSA SecurID® two-factor authentication software improves productivity and reduces costs through secure remote network access to confidential information
BEDFORD, Mass RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, today announced that Bryan Cave LLP is using RSA SecurID® two-factor authentication software to provide more than 1,000 employees and partners with secure remote access to the firm’s private network. RSA SecurID software is playing a critical role in the firm’s identity management strategy by helping to ensure that only authorized users have access to sensitive information and to comply with government regulations regarding data security. By providing remote access to its network, the firm has reduced costs, improved the productivity and efficiency of the lawyers and enhanced client service.
Bryan Cave is a diversified national and international law practice and is ranked as one of the world’s leading law firms. With more than 800 lawyers in 17 offices across the globe and a large and widely dispersed base of clients, Bryan Cave relies heavily on an advanced computer and communications system for the global reach and connectivity it requires.
As Bryan Cave’s practice expanded, the firm quickly realized it needed to provide secure remote access to a suite of mission critical applications, including everything from litigation software to time tracking and human resources functions, which it hosts on its corporate network. This would enable lawyers and clients to more effectively collaborate on projects, and support the numerous attorneys who regularly travel across states and continents to service its broad customer base. However, Bryan Cave had much to consider before deploying a remote access solution. A large amount of the information stored on its network and in the applications it houses is not only privileged and confidential client information and proprietary business data, but also protected by government regulations such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Gramm Leach-Bliley Act. Both of these regulations lay out specific guidelines surrounding the protection and privacy of personal data.
Bryan Cave turned to a RSA SecurWorld Channel Partner, the Enterprise Consulting Group, for its advanced infrastructure services that enabled the firm to provide secure access to its private network. Bryan Cave worked closely with the St. Louis-based professional consulting firm on the selection, testing and deployment of its remote access solution, which included RSA SecurID two-factor authentication technology and Check Point’s SecureClient™ software. The RSA SecurWorld Partner Program provides authorized channel partners with access to all RSA Security products and solutions, education programs, training and sales and marketing programs.
“When we decided to extend remote access to our network through VPN technology from Check Point, we knew we would need a solution that provided more effective security than static user passwords to ensure the protection and integrity of the sensitive client and business information housed on our network,” said Joel Hollenbeck, information services security officer at Bryan Cave. “RSA SecurID software was the ideal solution for us based on the strong authentication it provided, its ease of use, and low total cost ownership. We also knew RSA Security solutions were well respected in the industry and that there are a large number of professional services organizations that support the technology and could aid us in our implementation as well as any future expansion.”
The RSA SecurID system is a two-factor user authentication solution that is as simple to use as entering a password, but significantly more secure. Used in conjunction with RSA ACE/Server® software, an RSA SecurID authenticator functions like an ATM card for a company network, requiring users to identify themselves with two unique factors — something they know (a password or PIN), and something they have (in this case, an RSA SecurID key fob token) — before they are granted access to secure business information.
“Bryan Cave is the perfect example of the extensive benefits that can be derived from providing employees, customers and partners with access to your corporate network, including improved employee productivity and efficiency, collaboration and customer service,” said John Worrall, vice president of worldwide marketing at RSA Security. “However, no company can afford to take this step without first considering the security implications and building the proper identity and access management infrastructure that will ensure sensitive and proprietary data is protected from unauthorized users.”
