Dr. Kaliski is chief scientist and director at RSA Laboratories, the research division of RSA Security, where he works to transform promising technologies into competitive advantages for the company and its customers. His technical research has been a major factor in RSA Security becoming a market leader in IT security.
Each year, NEBATA, an established non-profit business association that brings together buyers and sellers of information technology, honors business and technology leaders from the New England area that have continuously demonstrated keen management insight and skill while contributing to the advancement of business and technology in the area.
“Dr. Kaliski has proven to be invaluable to the New England business and technology community,” said NEBATA President Tom Hopcroft. “We are proud to reward his hard work and recognize his superior performance in all of his contributions to RSA Security and the security marketplace.”
The sixth annual awards were also given to nine other New England business executives at the formal dinner ceremony held at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston, Mass. The winners, selected from 21 finalists, were representative of companies that had a high-impact force of change in the way business is conducted, and had contributed winning ideas and best practices to their organization and the New England business community.
“We are proud of everything Burt has accomplished, and NEBATA is demonstrating that by honoring one of the stars of the industry,” said Art Coviello, president and CEO at RSA Security. “This award is a credit to Burt and his leadership of RSA Laboratories, and the outstanding contributions his team has delivered in establishing RSA Security as a pioneer and industry-leader in the IT security market.”
Dr. Kaliski joined RSA Data Security in 1989, and helped launch RSA Laboratories as an academic environment within RSA Data Security. (RSA Data Security was acquired by Security Dynamics in 1996; the merged companies were renamed RSA Security.) Dr. Kaliski has also been involved extensively in the development of cryptographic standards. Initially at RSA Laboratories, he coordinated the development of the Public-Key Cryptography Standards (PKCS), working with major early adopters of public-key cryptography. From 1993-1999, he served as chair of the IEEE P1363 working group, which developed a standard, IEEE Std 1363-2000, covering the three main families of public-key cryptography. Since 1999 he has been the editor of the IEEE P1363a amendment and he is currently the editor of ANSI X9.44, the emerging banking standard for key establishment based on the RSA cryptosystem.
