New version of RSA SecurID® Web Express v1.2 offers end-to-end token provisioning and user management
BEDFORD, Mass. RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ: RSAS), the most trusted name in e-security®, today announced new RSA SecurID® Software Token functionality for BlackBerry and enhanced support for Palm™ handheld devices. Both are software versions of the renowned RSA SecurID hardware token, offering the security of this trusted authentication method in the convenience of mobile business tools. RSA Security also released RSA SecurID Web Express v1.2 software, an authentication credential user management solution that helps customers fully automate the implementation of both hardware and software tokens for lower deployment and administrative costs. Together, these tools provide customers with an end-to-end solution for securely and cost-effectively implementing two-factor authentication within their identity and access management infrastructure.
Handheld computing devices have quickly become a critical part of everyday business, arming users with mobile access to the applications and resources they need. This anytime, anywhere access makes identity management more important than ever. Putting the power of RSA SecurID software on portable devices – such as BlackBerry RIM and Palm handheld devices – allows enterprises to protect their electronic assets with strong, two-factor authentication without deploying and maintaining additional hardware devices. For users, the solution offers the convenience of using a single device for more than one application, eliminating the need to carry a dedicated authentication device. Further, the RSA SecurID Web Express solution is designed to expedite the deployment of RSA SecurID Software Tokens by automating the manual process. As a result, customers benefit from speedy deployment, ease of use, efficient management and lower total cost of ownership.
“RSA Security continues to strengthen its leadership position in the identity and access management space by expanding its authentication technology through popular mobile containers such as BlackBerry and Palm handheld devices,” said Rodney McCoy, UNIX engineer at Evergreen Assurance, a company that offers real-time disaster recovery solutions to protect mission-critical information systems. “This will provide our users with the convenience of not having to carry a separate hardware token while still maintaining the high level of security that the RSA SecurID authentication technology is known for.”
RSA SecurID Software Tokens use the same algorithms as the industry-leading RSA SecurID hardware tokens, including the AES algorithm. Rather than using a dedicated container, the symmetric key is safeguarded securely on a wide range of computing platforms and devices – such as the new BlackBerry RIM and enhanced Palm handheld platforms, as well as previously supported platforms including Microsoft® Windows® Workstations, Pocket PC, and Nokia and Ericsson smart phones. By merging RSA SecurID technology onto users’ own trusted devices, RSA SecurID Software Tokens make strong authentication a convenient part doing business. The RSA SecurID Software Token for BlackBerry supports OS version 3.6 and can be installed wirelessly via email. The RSA SecurID Software Token for Palm handhelds has been updated to support OS version 5 and offers customers the option of storing their tokens on a secure MMC card using the SecureMMC technology from Renesas Technology Corporation.
RSA SecurID Web Express software is an automated user management tool that is designed to offer customers a flexible, scalable solution for the deployment and ongoing management of RSA SecurID authentication credentials. Through RSA SecurID Web Express software, users can request, activate and initiate deployment of credentials from a standard web browser, thus decentralizing the administrative effort. The new release of software fully automates the distribution of RSA SecurID Software Tokens, supplementing the existing support for hardware tokens. In addition, RSA SecurID Web Express 1.2 software introduces user self-service, enabling users to securely change their own PINs and request expiring token replacements without involving a system administrator.
“RSA Security is helping our customers build identity management infrastructures based on the very highest level of trust by offering a user management solution for a wide range of strong authentication credentials,” said Jason Lewis, vice president of product management and marketing at RSA Security. “Software tokens for multi-use platforms – such as PDAs, PCs, smart phones and even smart cards – help create that trust, with the added benefit of user convenience and lower deployment costs.”
